What can we help you find?

    Exclusion

All you need to know about being excluded from Griffith University for academic reasons.

    Here you can learn about:

    • reasons for exclusion and implications for your studies

    • what to do if you disagree with the exclusion

    • how to recommence study after exclusion.

    Grounds for exclusion

Griffith students can be excluded from the university for poor academic performance. You may face exclusion if you either:

    • fail the same course three times

    • fail a designated course that was a requirement of your program

    • have a program GPA of less than 3.5 and at least one previous Orange academic progress status within your current program.

Griffith will contact you if you are facing exclusion.

    Implications of exclusion

If you think your exclusion is unreasonable, you can seek a review of the decision. The review request must be submitted within 10 working days from the date of your exclusion notice email.

Firstly, speak with your Program Director to fully understand the decision behind your exclusion. Afterwards, if you still believe you have been wrongly excluded, you can request an official review. You will be contacted as soon as possible regarding the review outcome.

If you are unsatisfied with the outcome of the review, you can submit an appeal.

    Recommencing study

Once you have served your exclusion period of two standard trimesters or nine calendar months (whichever is longer), you recommence study at Griffith.

You will not be able to automatically return to your studies. You must either apply for readmission into your current program or apply to study a new program.

An application can be lodged before the exclusion period has elapsed to meet University or other closing dates, but you will not be able to recommence your studies until the period of exclusion has elapsed.

Applications are not automatically approved. Factors such as your changed circumstances, maturity and motivation will be considered along with your application.

    Readmission to Queensland Conservatorium

If you're seeking readmission to a Queensland Conservatorium program, you may need to submit your application sooner.

To recommence study in Trimester 1, submit your application by the first week of August of the previous year.

To recommence study in Trimester 2, submit your application at least three months before to the commencement of Trimester 2.

Please note that you may need to perform an audition as part of the application process.
